ENROLLMENT IN CAREER TRACK

  • Once in Career Track, clients candidates are required to:
  • Attend a comprehensive Career Track Orientation and be enrolled with the WIA South Metro or Metro Career Center
  • Meet with their Career Counselor within the first week after CT orientation
  • Develop an Individual Employment Plan within the first week of enrollment
  • Continue to spend a minimum of thirty-two (32) hours each week in Career Track activities, inclusive of job searching
  • Clients will attend an orientation

Adult Education Classes for Basic Skill Training

Saint Vincent DePaul Village provides basic educational skill training, which are the foundations for success. Each client's candidate's specific skill sets are assessed, identified, and developed to the level appropriate to the career sought. Some examples of these skills are:

  • Reading Comprehension Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
  • Writing Communicating thoughts, ideas, information, and messages; recording information completely and accurately; composes letters and documents
  • Arithmetic Performing basic computations and uses basic numerical concepts
  • Mathematics Applying quantitative data and models to solve problems
  • Listening Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate
  • Speaking Organizes ideas and communicates oral messages appropriate to listeners and situations. Conversing with others to convey information effectively
  • Science Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems
  • Critical Thinking Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Active Learning Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Learning Strategies Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things

Work Readiness Classes for Life Skills Training

Saint Vincent DePaul recognizes that all employees need general work skills that apply to any work environment. These "soft" or "life" skills such as showing up on time, working in teams, customer service, communications, or dealing with conflict are all part of the program. Additional examples of these skills are:

  • Adaptability Being flexible and managing in a ever changing world
  • Attitude Having and projecting a positive mental image about one's self and the situations that arise in the workplace
  • Appearance Understanding proper grooming and appropriate dress for position and the organizational culture
  • Punctuality and Attendance Consistently being on the job and arriving on time
  • Customer Service Maintaining the company's reputation when interacting with customers and coworkers
  • Safety Practicing safe work habits to avoid on the job injuries to one's self or coworkers
  • Teamwork Collaborating with others to solve problems or create new opportunities
  • Social Skills Developed capacities used to work with people to achieve goals
  • Social Perceptiveness Awareness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Coordination Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions
  • Persuasion Persuading others to change their minds or behavior
  • Negotiation Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences
  • Instructing Teaching others how to do something
  • Service Orientation Actively looking for ways to help people
  • Problem Solving Skills Developed capacities used to solve novel, ill-defined problems in complex, real-world settings
  • Complex Problem Solving Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

Vocational Classes for Career Directed Training

In addition to establishing basic work habits, clients candidates will be required to attend internal training programs to prepare them for their vocational pursuit. Successful completion of these training programs will allow the client candidate to continue on the path toward the ultimate career goal. Saint Vincent DePaul Village offers specific training programs in:
