These recently released books that feature Father Joe Carroll make the perfect addition to any reading list.

Reciprocity, Incorporated
Author Augie Nieto delivers advice for entrepreneurs and the abiding example that good citizenship is, in fact, good business. Father Joe Carroll, founder of Father Joe’s Villages, is interviewed along with Starbucks Founder Howard Schultz; Mike Ilitch, founder of Little Caesars Pizza;
Dr. Paul Jacobs, chief executive officer of QUALCOMM; Cookie Lee of Cookie Lee Jewelry and Michael Chang, founder of Panda Express.
Nieto writes: “Father Joe’s emphasis is on teaching the homeless of San Diego the skills to land a job while reinforcing the habits required to hold one. As a result, Father Joe has become wise in the ways of business from both sides of the equation.”
The Man on the Bench
H. Alton Jones, a Point Loma writer, tells the story of homelessness and community through the life and death of Jeffery Pastorino, a schizophrenic man who spent 15 years on a bench in Point Loma. When Pastorino died in August 2009, locals grieved his passing. Father Joe Carroll presided over a memorial service for him at the bench where he lived.
Jones writes: “When Father Joe Carroll arrived … the crowd had grown to 150 people. Father Joe exuded a sense of calm and humility. His disarming smile brightened the day for everyone there. He graciously greeted the many mourners that lined up to meet him.”
