St.
Vincents Will Lend Helping Hand South of the Border
After Harsh Weekend Weather, Village Prepares to Truck Assistance
to Tijuana Neighbors
SAN
DIEGO St. Vincent de Paul Village, in response to last weekends
winter storm, will load two of its delivery trucks with blankets
and childrens clothing at its 3350 "E" Street warehouse
on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 4:30 p.m. The trucks will leave St. Vincents
at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31 and deliver the items to two
Tijuana outreach agencies.
Village
President Father Joe Carroll says St. Vincents has been participating
in over $1 million of outreach in Mexico annually for the past 10
years, but only recently assigned it an official name.
"We
need to remember that our neighbors south of the border are only
a few miles away, which is why we have established Padre Luis Jayme
International Outreach," says Father Joe. "The items were
transporting on Wednesday will go to two different agencies which
we work with throughout the year."
Those
agencies Casa de los Pobres (House of the Poor), located
at Colonia Alta Mira Calle Genova, and Sister Antonia of Casa Campo
San Miguel, 4563 Pico de Orizaba will share an allotment
of 4,000 blankets and 10,000 pieces of childrens clothing.
Father Joe estimates this trip will account for more than $250,000
of outreach.
"There
are thousands of people, many of them children, who need the blankets
and clothes to keep warm," says Father Joe. "With children
in particular, you never want to think about them not having a warm
place to hide from the rain and chilly air, but the reality is theyre
out there and St. Vincents will do its best to help our neighbors
in Mexico."
