Children’s Charity Dinner To
Recognize Local, National Supporters

Event Raises Awareness and Funds For
Village’s Children’s Programs

SAN DIEGO — St. Vincent de Paul Village, with support from KSWB Cares for Kids, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, will hold its 2002 Charity Dinner on Saturday, April 6, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Downtown San Diego, One Market Place, at 6:30 p.m.

Among the honorees is Fox News’ O’Reilly Factor host Bill O’Reilly, KOGO radio’s Roger Hedgecock and his wife, Cindy, local attorney Vincent Bartolotta and his wife, Judy, and Rancho Bernardo’s San Rafael Parish pastor Msgr. Lloyd Bourgeois.

The honorees will be recognized for their commitment to and support of children’s services at St. Vincent’s and the Toussaint Teen Center.

"Each of our honorees has made it a priority to make a positive difference in the lives of the hundreds of children we help every year," says Fr. Joe Carroll, president of St. Vincent’s. "Whether it’s raising money, raising awareness, volunteering or encouraging others to play an active role in their community, our awardees have been integral sources of support for the many services we offer homeless children and their families."

O’Reilly’s involvement with the Village began in 1991 when he stopped by for an impromptu tour.

"I didn’t even know he was coming," says Fr. Joe. "He saw with his own eyes our commitment to the dignity of our clients and he appreciates the fact that they have to play an active role in their own rehabilitation – if you know anything about Bill, it’s that he doesn’t approve of a free ride."

Award recipient Hedgecock, with the support of his wife and business manager Cindy, broadcasts a radio-thon each December that generates thousands of dollars for the Village’s children’s programs.

Honoree Msgr. Bourgeois, who retires this year, has fostered among his congregation an attitude of compassion for and sharing with the less fortunate. As a result, his parish regularly provides monetary support to the Village’s children’s programs.

Individual tickets for $250 to tables seating 10 for $2,500 are still available. For more information, please call (619) 687-1066.
