Internists Lace Up Running Shoes to Raise Funds
For St. Vincents
Charitable Outreach One Part of Three-day Physicians Gathering
SAN DIEGO As many as
150 doctors from across the U.S. attending the American College
of Physicians (ACP) three-day Annual Session in San Diego
will participate in a 5K run at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at
Embarcadero Marina Park South. The proceeds from the event will
benefit St. Vincent de Paul Villages free medical clinic.
Prior to the run at 5:45
a.m. a representative of the ACP, will present a check to
Jean Serafy of St. Vincents. The donation will fund the Village
medical clinics outreach to minorities, who comprise more
than half of the 4,000 patient-visits the clinic administers monthly.
"Theres a tremendous
need for quality health care among underserved minority populations
in San Diego," says Father Joe Carroll, president of the Village.
"This donation will have a significant impact on the comprehensive
free medical services we offer our minority clients who are either
uninsured or underinsured."
The ACP Annual Session is an
educational meeting where physicians learn about recent medical
advances affecting patient care. Approximately 6,000 internists
and medical students are expected to attend more than 250 lectures,
panel discussions and workshops.
Headquartered in Philadelphia,
the ACP is the nation's largest medical specialty organization and
second largest physician group in the U.S. Internal medicine physicians
provide the majority of health care to adults in the U.S. To learn
