St. Vincents to Serve Annual Easter Meal, Bunny Will Make
Appearance
Volunteers from Chargers Organization Will Lend Helping
Hand
SAN
DIEGO St. Vincent de Paul Village, located at 1501 Imperial
Avenue, will serve its annual non-resident Easter meal on Saturday,
April 14, at 11 a.m. In addition to the meal, volunteers from Point
Loma High Schools Interact Club will help as many as 100 Village
children decorate and hunt for Easter eggs on the same day at 1
p.m.
Members
of the San Diego Chargers front office staff will volunteer
for the meal, which they have done for the past five years, serving
leg of lamb and all of its accompaniments to as many as 1,200 St.
Vincents visitors.
President
of the Village, Father Joe Carroll, says the meal exemplifies the
support St. Vincents receives throughout the year.
"Easter
is an occasion when families come together for brunch or dinner,
remembering the sacrifices which have been made for them,"
says Father Joe. "Much in the same way, our Easter meal brings
together our family residents, non-residents, volunteers
and staff to remember what so many people in the San Diego
community have given to us."
Father
Joe says the holiday lunch is only one of the more than one million
served every year at St. Vincents.
"We
recognize the fact that people arent only hungry around Thanksgiving
and Christmas," he says. "We maintain a constant presence
among our homeless neighbors so, when they do make that decision
to change their lives, theyll already know where to go to
find assistance," adding the Village offers a multitude of
services aimed at assisting homeless families and individuals achieve
self-sufficiency.
After
the annual lunch, Village children will scour St. Vincents
courtyard in search of decorated eggs. The Easter Bunny will make
an appearance during the hunt, interacting with children and helping
them fill their baskets with as many holiday treats as they can
hold.
