Memorial Day Meal to be Served at Village
Less Fortunate Can Find Nourishment Every Holiday, Everyday, at St.
Vincent’s
SAN DIEGO — St. Vincent de Paul Village will celebrate Memorial Day by
serving as many as 1,200 family members and single adults at it’s 1501
Imperial Avenue location on Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m.
The menu for the day’s meal includes a kabob
medley of chicken breast, beef tenderloin and shrimp, ginger-rice
pilaf, spring-mix salad and mousse
pie for dessert.
Appropriately, on the day the nation remembers the men and women who gave their
lives in combat, 106 members of the U.S. Navy will volunteer to serve meals.
"It’s with great pride and appreciation that St. Vincent’s will
welcome the sailors who are giving their time to contribute to the community,
while also protecting our country," says Father Joe Carroll, president of
the Village. "Many of the individuals who will join us for this special
meal are homeless veterans."
According the county’s Regional Task Force
on the Homeless there are approximately 2,000 veterans living on
the streets of San Diego.
Father Joe says the free meal represents only the most basic outreach
St. Vincent’s
provides the area’s needy.
"It’s always been our hope that our meal service act as an introduction
to the comprehensive services we offer our less fortunate neighbors," he
says. "Our main goal is to establish a relationship with the people
who need help and educate them on the services we provide to help them
get back
on their feet."
The Village offers a comprehensive network of services,
including medical and dental care, job training, children’s
services, chemical-dependency classes, educational opportunities
and short- and long-term housing,
all of which is
aimed at helping clients obtain self-sufficiency.

Day meal, call (619) 525-1608.
