Vincents Women Will Get a Shot at Higher Education
Kelsey-Jenney Scholarship Program Puts St. Vincents Women
on the Right "PATH"
SAN
DIEGO Five St. Vincent de Paul Village women will be one
step closer to self-sufficiency with the help of scholarships awarded
by Kelsey-Jenney College at a 9 a.m. breakfast banquet, being held
Thursday, June 19, 2001 at the Horton Grand Hotel, 311 Island Avenue.
A
$10,000 educational endowment, known as the PATH (Providing Advancement,
Training and Hope) scholarship, will be awarded to each of the women,
who have made exemplary efforts to reach the benchmarks set forth
in the Villages case-managed rehabilitation curriculum.
Village
residents Michelle Brandon, Norma Sloan, Ann Oldenburg, Blanca Felix
and Martha Scott have earned the opportunity to study in any degree
field available at the college, which offers associate of science
degrees and diploma-level training in the business, medical, computer
and legal fields.
Kelsey-Jenney
has offered the scholarships for the past five years, during which
time 18 have been awarded. Village alumni who have benefited from
the scholarship program will also be on hand to celebrate the mornings
festivities.
The
school is dedicated to working closely with employers to continually
update curricula and expand its class selection and other academic
programs. Graduates of the college are eligible for lifetime job-placement
assistance through the school.
