St. Vincent’s Set to Distribute Second
Cycle of Sub-awards
Village Training Institute Continues to Train, Fund Smaller Agencies
SAN DIEGO — Father Joe’s
Villages will distribute $96,000 of federal compassion capital funding
to five Southern California human-services agencies on Monday, August
11, at 11 a.m., at the Toussaint Teen Center, located at 1404 5th
Avenue in downtown San Diego.
Father Joe Carroll, president of the
Villages, will present checks to Hillview
Acres Children’s Home, Greater Golden Hill Community Development Corporation,
Warner Springs Community Resource Board, Back Country Support Services and
Celebrate Freedom Outreach.
The sub-awards are distributed by the Village Training
Institute (VTI), an
arm of Father Joe’s Villages whose efforts focus on aiding smaller organizations
to efficiently and effectively manage human-services programs. The funding
available through the VTI is from a $673,000 federal disbursement Father Joe’s
Villages received last year from the White House Office of Faith- and Community-based
Initiatives, a program started by President George W. Bush.
"We’re pleased to have the opportunity
to share our 21 years of expertise in the field of human services
with smaller agencies trying to make a difference
in their communities," Father Joe says. "It’s incredibly
gratifying to be recognized as a leader in community-based services and
our hope is we can
share our success as an organization with other groups providing outreach."
The
$96,000 in grants represents the second cycle of sub-awards to come from
VTI. In June, the inaugural disbursement of $64,000 was shared by
two area
agencies.
Father Joe’s Villages was the only California
agency and one of a mere 21 nationwide to receive the faith-based
funding.
