Call for Reserves Touches
St. Vincents Family
St.
Vincent de Paul Village received word early Friday, September 14,
that Father Bill Metzdorf, executive director of Toussaint Youth
Villages and a lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard, has
been called to active duty for 30 days in response to Tuesdays
attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in
Washington, D.C.
He
has been assigned to notify families of those who were killed at
the Pentagon, provide counseling and conduct funeral services. Metzdorf
was conducting a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery when the
attacks began.

Besides
his more than 15 years of service as a chaplain in the National
Guard, Metzdorf is a licensed marriage and family therapist. He
maintained a private practice for 20 years before joining his former
seminary classmate Father Joe Carroll at St. Vincent de Paul Village.
"His
decades of experience is one of the reasons he was called to active
duty," says Father Joe. "Hes committed to providing
assistance to the families who have suffered during our countrys
tragedy."
In
1998, Metzdorf was recruited by Father Joe to head Toussaint Youth
Villages, a program for children and teens consisting of the Toussaint
Teen Center in downtown San Diego and PromiseLand Ranch, a residential
facility for foster youths being developed in Campo, Calif.
