"Steppin
Out" to Cure the Blues
Renowned Blues Musician Slated to Entertain Village Residents and
Neighbors
SAN
DIEGO Local blues guitarist Bill Magee and his cronies will
hold a free concert at St. Vincent de Paul Village, located at 1501
Imperial Avenue, on Sunday, October 14, at 4 p.m. for residents
and neighbors of the homeless rehabilitation facility.
Enjoying
the talents of a Blues legend is only one benefit the concert offers
Village residents, says St. Vincents President Fr. Joe Carroll.
"Our
mission statement emphasizes respect for the fundamental dignity
of our clients, " he says. "This is one way to restore
some sense of normalcy and dignity to the lives of our families
as they move through the rehabilitative process toward self-sufficiency.
Music has a way of making a person smile and, in light of
Americas recent tragedy, it will really lift spirits."
Over
400 St. Vincents residents and East Village neighbors took
part in the alcohol-free festivities last year, which included great
music, fun and an abundance of food.
Magees
40-year devotion to music has taken him from the backwoods of Mississippi
to tours of Europe and Asia. During his career, Magee has played
with the likes of B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Bo Diddley
and, in 1963, started a band with a then aspiring young guitarist
named Jimi Hendrix.
Magee
will be available for interviews between 3:30 and 4 p.m. St. Vincents
residents will also be on hand to provide their own take on the
afternoons event.
Magee
will be playing clips such as "Steppin Out," "Next
Time I See You" and "Comin Home."
This
is the fourth year Magee and his band will perform for the residents
of St. Vincent de Paul Village.
