Fair
Combines Efforts of Local Health Organizations
Participants Promote Education, Prevention, Available Resources
SAN
DIEGO St. Vincent de Paul Village will hold its annual health
fair on Tuesday, October 24 at 1501 Imperial Avenue from 2 to 4
p.m.
The
event, organized by the Villages Health Services Department,
targets adults living at St. Vincents and will provide information
on medical resources in the community, as well as facts about and
prevention of common health problems.
Fourteen
groups will participate in Tuesdays fair, including the Arthritis
Foundation, Veterans Administration Medical Center, UCSD Outreach
Team, Mental Health Association of San Diego and SDSU School of
Nursing. St. Vincents clinic staff will also be on hand to
administer tuberculosis (TB) screenings with support from the County
of San Diegos TB Control Team.
The
volunteer groups will set up booths staffed by agency representatives
who will answer questions and conduct risk evaluations and screenings
for heart disease, stroke, hepatitis, depression and other health
issues.
The
annual event introduces clients to resources beyond the walls of
St. Vincents and underscores its "one-stop-shopping"
approach to care, says Jean Serafy, the Villages Health Services
program manager.
"Our
on-site medical clinic offers comprehensive care, but we think its
important to let our clients know about other alternatives out there
which focus on specific health issues," says Serafy. "It
all comes back to the continuum of care and offering our residents
everything they need all in one place, and this health fair is an
example of that philosophy."
The
event is sponsored by Galloway Pharmacy, Costco, LifeScan and Beyer
Pharmaceuticals. For more information on this years health
fair or St. Vincents Health Services Department, please call
Jean Serafy at (619) 233-8500 ext. 1133.
