St. Vincent de Paul Village will open an emergency shelter for up to 270 homeless family members and single adults currently exposed to the declining air quality caused by area fires at its 1501 Imperial Avenue location at 7 p.m. tonight.

With ash and smoke settling upon San Diego, the homeless – particularly children, the disabled and others with medical conditions – are vulnerable to respiratory distress that can be caused by the current conditions.
