Father
Joe Lauds Presidents Speech
Bush Encourages Americans to Continue Outreach at Local Level
SAN
DIEGO Father Joe Carroll of St. Vincent de Paul Village watched
and listened closely last night as President Bush addressed America
and was pleased with the message the nations leader delivered.
"He
recognizes that outreach in the wake of the Sept. 11 attack has
been phenomenal, but most of it has been directed to the East Coast
and rightfully so," Father Joe says. "Essentially he wants
to see that support for the community continue, but at the local
level."
In
his primetime address, the president stressed the importance of
Americans continuing their outreach, but encouraged them to do it
in their own communities.
"Many
ask, What can I do to help in our fight? The answer
is simple," Bush said. "All of us can become a September
the 11th volunteer by making a commitment to service in our own
communities. So you can serve your country by tutoring or mentoring
a child, comforting the afflicted, housing those in need of shelter
and home."
Father
Joe says the presidents push for local outreach could not
have come at a more critical time.
"Charities
in San Diego have taken a hit since the attacks," he says.
"But were all still here doing our part to ensure the
needy can find the help they are in search of to turn their lives
around; the president understands that and it was important for
him to deliver that message to all of America."
Father
Joe will be available for comment on President Bushs speech
and the impact it may have on St. Vincents until 5 p.m. today.
