Traditional Holiday Meals on the Menu at St. Vincent’s
Outreach at St. Vincent’s Continues Well Beyond the Holiday Season
SAN DIEGO — St. Vincent de Paul Village will serve its annual Thanksgiving meal to homeless and underserved members of the community on Wednesday, November 24, at 11 a.m., at 1501 Imperial Avenue.
As many as 1,500 homeless family members, single adults and underserved area residents will enjoy a hot turkey dinner with all of the trimmings, served by a corps of more than 100 volunteers.
Father Joe Carroll, president of the Village, says the seasonal bounty represents only a handful of the more than 1 million meals St. Vincent’s serves annually to residents of the facility and surrounding community.
“Thanksgiving Day meals for the less fortunate are a dime-a-dozen in this city,” Father Joe says. “But the thousands of needy members of our community deserve warm meals and nourishment year-round and St. Vincent’s meets that need by providing meals each and every day of the year – not just during the holiday season.”
The Village’s Thanksgiving Day efforts will be focused on its third annual run/walk, an event that raises funds for St. Vincent’s daily meal services.
“We couldn’t provide our daily meal service were it not for our dedicated supporters, many of whom will be participating in our run/walk,” Father Joe says. “Once the run is over, participants can get home in time to enjoy their own turkey and stuffing, and without the guilt.”
People interested in participating in the run/walk can register at www.thanksgivingrun.org.
