Traditional Holiday Meals on the Menu at St. Vincent’s
Outreach at St. Vincent’s Continues Well Beyond the Holiday
Season
SAN DIEGO — St. Vincent
de Paul Village will serve two Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday, November
26, starting with an 11
a.m. gathering at 1501 Imperial
Avenue for non-resident clients and a resident dinner to follow at 5 p.m. at
the same location.
At the morning meal, as many
as 1,500 homeless family members, single adults and underserved area
residents will
enjoy a hot turkey
dinner with all the
trimmings, served by a corps of more than 100 volunteers.
Later that afternoon,
900 Village residents will enjoy their own Thanksgiving feast with
ham, turkey and other holiday favorites on the menu.
Father Joe
Carroll, president of the Village, says the seasonal bounty represents
only a handful
of the more than 1 million meals St. Vincent’s serves annually. "Thanksgiving Day meals
for the less fortunate are a dime-a-dozen in this city," Father
Joe says. "But the thousands of homeless and underserved
members of our community need warm meals and nourishment year-round and
St. Vincent’s
meets that need by providing meals each and every day of the year – not
just on popular holidays."
The Village’s Thanksgiving Day efforts
will be focused on its second annual run/walk, an event that raises funds
for St. Vincent’s daily meal services.
"
We couldn’t provide our daily meal service were it not for
our dedicated supporters, many of whom will be participating in our
run/walk," Father
Joe says. "Once the run is over, participants can get home in
time to enjoy their own turkey and stuffing, and without the guilt."
