Thanksgiving
Meals to be Served at Village
Outreach at St. Vincents Continues Well Beyond the Holiday
Season
SAN
DIEGO St. Vincent de Paul Village will begin its holiday-meal
service on Wednesday, Nov. 21, when it welcomes non-resident clients
to take part in its annual Thanksgiving meal at 11 a.m. at its 1501
Imperial Avenue location.
As
many as 1,500 homeless family members, single adults and needy area
residents will enjoy a hot turkey dinner with all the trimmings,
served by a corps of more than 100 volunteers.
On
Thursday, Nov. 22, El Indio Restaurant will prepare a traditional
Mexican breakfast for 1,500 Village residents and non-residents
at 8 a.m. at St. Vincents.
The
feasting doesnt end there: 200 Village teens and single adults
will make their way to the Hard Rock Café La Jolla, located
at 909 Prospect, where the holiday smorgasbord will continue.
The
days final meal will be served at 5 p.m. to residents at the
Villages main downtown facility.
St.
Vincents president, Fr. Joe Carroll, says while the holiday
meals may bring in the largest crowds, they represent only a small
portion of the more than one million meals served at the Village
annually.
"There
are many organizations which serve lunch or dinner around the holiday
season," Fr. Joe says. "The difference is that at St.
Vincents we keep our doors open year-round: The hungry and
homeless will continue to be hungry and homeless regardless if its
Thanksgiving or March 23 or August 15."
