St. Vincents to Hold End-of-year Give-A-Thon
Donations Lessen Tax Burden, Increase Goodwill
SAN DIEGO St. Vincent
de Paul Village will hold its annual Give-A-Thon from Thursday,
Dec. 26 through Tuesday, Dec. 31.
During those final six days
of the year, San Diegans are encouraged to make end-of-year, tax-deductible
donations of clothing, cars, appliances, bulk foods, furniture,
electronics, art and even excess commercial inventory to St. Vincents.
The Village sells those items at auction, the proceeds from which
fund programs and services for the homeless at the organizations
downtown residential facility.
President of St. Vincents,
Father Joe Carroll, says the week after Christmas is the perfect
time to clean out the garage, attic and closets.
"People will inevitably
need to make room for their new holiday gifts," he says. "So
pack the used clothing, appliances and other items in the car, drive
it to our warehouse and leave everything including the car
and well give you a receipt to show proof youve
made a tax-deductible donation."
The St. Vincents warehouse at
815 33rd Street (just north of Market Street) will be accepting
donations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31. Individuals
may also drop off donations at St. Vincents thrift stores
throughout San Diego County (call 619.687.1066 for specific thrift
store locations and hours of business).
