What A Wonderful Gift!
By Michael Wall – Director of Planned Giving
Peggy Gurney was born
in Hartford, Connecticut and like so many in San Diego, she migrated
to the sunshine and the promises of
Southern California. A graduate of Covey College in New Hampshire,
she was a professional career woman all her life. She began as
an executive secretary and later began her lifetime career as a
legal secretary. As a longtime employee of the firm Butler, Kaminas & Sorbo,
she extended her competence and influence to the Board of Governance
of Legal Secretary’s Association. Later she worked exclusively
for Attorney John Sorbo and was a great friend of John and his
wife, Patricia Dunklee, M.D.,who kept Peggy informed on the progress
of St. Vincent’s.
Peggy loved to travel. She was especially
fond of visiting the Orient. Also, she was adept at investing in
real estate and the
stock market. Her motto was "buy good stuff and hold it." The
strategy worked well. Even though she lived a quiet and simple
life, she made a spectacular impact on Father Joe’s Villages® by
leaving her entire estate to the Villages.
In her 87 years, Peggy
was a true professional who was recognized for her competence and
friendliness. She now is recognized as an
angel who will touch the lives of many men, women and children
who are served so well by Father Joe’s Villages®. Father
Joe and all the members of the Villages are grateful to Peggy for
her appreciation of our work and her wonderful gift.
Remembering
Father Joe’s Villages® in your Will or Living
Trust is very easy. Unfortunately only 30 percent of the people
in the United States have a Will and less than 6 percent remember
a charity in their Wills. Two million people die each year in the
United States. If 60 percent of them had a Will and 50 percent
of them made a charitable bequest in their Wills, they would accomplish
great work for all men, women and children in need.
If you wish
to make a bequest to Father Joe’s Villages® or if you
need additional information on Wills or Living Trusts, call: Michael
Wall at 619.687.1037 or Joseph Perucca at 619.687.1319.
