Barbara
Paumier, a long-time volunteer, was among those honored April 4,
2003 during Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s
Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Paumier was presented the
Sharing God’s Blessing Award by Co-founder
Gloria Gomez in recognition of her 12 years of exemplary service
and leadership as a volunteer, first to Martha’s Kitchen
and continuing with the Village.
The annual event is held to thank
those who volunteer their time and efforts to Martha’s. Held
this year in Trump 29 Casino’s
Madjool Room, more than 300 people assembled to recognize those
who volunteer their time in various capacities. Volunteers from
across the Coachella Valley attended the dinner, including volunteers
working in medical, education, food services, emergency services
and daycare programs.
In addition, two volunteers were presented
with a newly created award. Claudia Castorena presented Nelly Avila
and Soledad Valenzuela with the Friends of Martha’s Award
in recognition of their long-term service.
The event included a cocktail reception, raffle,
dinner and entertainment by a strolling guitarist. The event was
made possible through the generosity of Wells Fargo, corporate
sponsor of this year’s dinner.
Gloria Gomez and Claudia Castorena
commended the volunteers for their tireless work, stating that
Martha’s 500-plus volunteers
have donated more than 50,000 hours of service to help the homeless
and those in need. Heartfelt words of appreciation by Father Joe
Carroll capped off a beautiful evening as volunteers were recognized
and celebrated.
