St. Vincent’s Wins Award for Innovative Therapeutic Childcare Program
St. Vincent de Paul Village’s innovative Therapeutic Childcare Program was recognized recently for its creative response to San Diego County’s human care needs. The program is a blend of services provided to all children ages birth to five residing at the Village and is directed by Alma Covarrubias, program manager of Children’s Services, and Ruth Newton, Ph.D., director of Project SAFECHILD.
Since 2002, Project SAFECHILD has worked with the teachers and staff at Children’s Services, assuring Village families that their children are ready to learn when they enter school.
“We use developmental assessments to uncover delays in numerous areas, such as cognitive, language and motor skills,” says Newton. “Then we offer multiple therapies tailored to the children and family needs.”
